TIMELESS TREASURES from
Charles and Mrytle
Fillmore
How
did they begin this dream we love as Unity?
|
Spirit
guides us. Principle directs
us, and the Christ Indwelling reveals to us the next step in our
unfolding. In order to better
understand the foundation of positive, practical Christianity as revealed
through Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, let us journey back in time.
They began this dream we now know as Unity.
How did they maintain the wondrous balance of ever acknowledging
God as their Source while at the same time honoring the human forms
through whom God worked to bring unlimited resources to them?
Through
library research, we present these direct quotes from our founders and our
early publications. This is
how Unity began to generate the funds required to build our movement in
the early 1900’s.

“ON THE NEW
BUILDING”
We expect
to be holding our meetings in the new building in about two weeks.
The
corner-stone dedication is to be held off until everyone has a
chance to get in. Some
people think we are using this corner-stone proposition as an
inducement to people to contribute.
Well, what if we are? Is
it not a good proposition? Whoever
contributes gets a place in the corner-stone of the first
exclusively New Thought structure in the country.
It identifies you with the most powerful spiritual centre
on this planet, and you are constantly in touch with higher planes
of consciousness through us.
We make this possible through our
eternal spiritual vigilance. Night
and day mighty mental
and spiritual forces are being generated and sent forth into the
race mind from this centre. And
those who identify themselves with us are enveloped in a great
life-giving aura that perpetually imparts health, protection and
prosperity. Thus we
are doing all people good, and our efforts in having many persons
own the building are for their benefit.
The new Unity building will not be the property of any
individual, but it will be owned by those who are contributing for
it’s construction.
Send your contributions to:

From WEEKLY UNITY,
May 19, 1910
If we would put our emphasis
on circulation rather than accumulation, we would find that much
of our difficulty concerning supply would vanish.
If we would recognize the value of the principle of giving
in place of the constant thought of getting, we would not so often
find ourselves in poverty. We
need to make more frequent use of the extensor muscle, to open and
reach out to one another, instead of constantly desiring to draw
into ourselves. We
talk of being just, and fail of being generous.
- C. B. Newcomb

From WEEKLY UNITY,
April 28, 1910
ABOUT THE INCIDENTAL EXPENSES:
Every Society has a few
incidental expenses to meet even though it owns the building in
which services are held. Unity
Society of Practical Christianity is in like necessity.
Light, heat, janitor service, music and repair bills must
be met. The janitor
alone must have $5.00 per week.
Envelope
collections are not quite up to the mark.
For the past three weeks they have averaged but about
$5.00 a Sunday. Let us
take this matter up individually with ourselves and remedy the
shortage.

GOD’S ABUNDANCE
From “Keep
a True Lent” by Charles Fillmore
God, being the giver of
inexhaustible ideas of plenty, loves those who abandon
themselves to a cheerful state of mind so that He may pour more
abundance into their thoughts.
Then Paul says, “God is able to make all
grace abound unto you: that ye, having always all sufficiency in
everything, may abound unto good work.”
The thought behind a gift is the real measure of it’s
value and efficiency. Jesus
illustrated this when He called the attention of His disciples
to the poor widow who cast two mites into the treasury, which
was large in her estimation because it represented all her
living. It is what
we think about our gift that gives it spiritual value and not
the stamp on the coin. This
is illustrated by the story about the careless Scot who tossed a
crown, thinking it a penny, into the collection plate.
He saw his mistake and asked to have it back.
The deacon refused and the Scot grunted, “Aweel, aweel,
I’ll get credit for it in heaven.”
“Na, na,” responded the deacon, “ye’ll get credit
for the penny.”….
By
the act of tithing, men make God their partner in financial
transactions and thus keep the channel open from the source in
the ideal to the manifestation in the realm of things.
Whoever thinks that he is helping to keep God’s work
going in the earth cannot help but believe that God will help
him. This virtually
makes God not only a silent partner but also active in producing
capital from unseen and unknown sources, in opening up avenues
for commercial gain, and in various other ways making the
individual prosperous. |

A LETTER FROM MYRTLE FILLMORE
February 4, 1931
Our
dear….:
We are glad that you are taking a firm, positive stand
and refusing to admit that there is lack.
When you look with your all-seeing, all-discerning eye of
faith, you see God’s abundance manifesting to meet every need
of yours. So
practice seeing with this inner eye that beholds the eternal
verities of being. The
more you exercise this eye, the better you will see with it.
Of course, you know what to
do! Affirm and
realize that God’s wisdom and good judgment, that were
implanted in you from the beginning, are making your way
illuminated and prosperous.
You would not think of closing your eyes and walking
around saying that you can’t see and don’t know where
you’re going. So
why close your eye of omniscience by saying, “I do not know
what to do”? Repeatedly
affirm that YOU DO KNOW! That
is the way to make your wisdom work for you and guide you in
paths of plenty.
You have some talent and
capability, that, used to the glory of God and the honor of man,
will bring you a rich reward.
There is something that you can do better than any one
else can do it, and through the loving, efficient service you
can render, you will fulfill a need in the world.
As you develop your inner resources and capabilities, the
way is bound to open in the outer for you to “cash in” on
your talents.
When the way seems dark, pray for spiritual illumination
and guidance, and bring all of your thought people into the
light. You will
become a radiant center of light, joy, optimism, and people will
want to have you serve them.
You will inspire success, for others will have confidence
in you.
Through the understanding of spiritual laws you have a
potential “gold mine” to develop.
God helps those who put forth the effort to use their
faculties and abilities righteously.
We are God’s executives, and He needs man to make His
good things manifest: so
each one of us is an avenue through which the Father works.
We are praying with you and for
you.
“Great is thy faith: be it done unto thee even as thou
wilt.”
Lovingly,
Myrtle |
