Our Humanities Team began its formation after one of our
members, Bill Lane, attended an organizational meeting
in June, 2003, in Portland, OR. That meeting, featuring such
speakers as Neale Donald Walsh, Duane Elgin, Barbara Marx Hubbard,
and others of similar caliber, focussed on only two important
premises:
1. The major challenges facing our world today are not political,
they are spiritual in nature, and can only be met successfully by
spiritual means.
2. Those spiritual means must be developed and called into action
by 'grass-roots' teams of dedicated individuals formed at the local
community level.
Bill brought his excitement and vision back to our Unity group in Centralia, and a number of us joined him and his wife, Terri, in forming our own grass-roots Humanities Team for the Lewis County area. This Team, however, is not limited to members of the Unity Center; we extend a sincere invitation to anyone interested in finding and implementing practical spiritual solutions to the pressing challenges we face.
In our view, "spiritual" has less to do with what one does, and a lot more with why and how one acts in this world. Our beliefs about who and what we are determine our behavior; toward ourselves, each other, and the rest of the world.
Our Society's prevailing beliefs have produced behavior that is not working very well, behavior that is already destructive...potentially terminally so.
We have been invited to accept, individually, a transforming vision of who and what we each are, then to extend that to how we see and relate to all of humanity.
We need to dare to accept the changes this vision requires.
We need to care enough to dare to be our very best, at all times.
We need to care enough to share the resulting way of being; with each other, with our community, with our nation, and with the world.
We have no desire simply to hear and claim this 'new' spirituality for ourselves, only to sit around telling ourselves how wonderful we are. The old statement "actions speak louder than words" is still true, and we have already begun outreach into the local community...not as a means of 'preaching' or spreading propaganda, but solely as a heartfelt expression of who and what we all are.
How the Team and its activities will evolve is entirely dependent on the vision and participation of the individuals which make it up. We invite you to sit in on and observe our meetings, explore our ideas and activities, discuss your reactions, and then discover whether you feel a calling to become part of this Team.
