THE FAMILY PROMISE PROGRAM Our time to co-host the Family Promise homeless families has come again. We begin the week on May 21st and end it on Sunday morning May 28th. The request is that we host the day of Saturday May 27th. This includes preparing Breakfast, lunch and dinner, and having a man and woman host the overnight Saturday night. The day hosting will take four folks at any given time. We envision overlapping shifts from our church. Leila and Philip will take as many shifts as necessary. We had five folks at the last pre-training, and another pre-training will be held before our week begins. Let us step with confidence into this work of love. Please call Leila and Philip (597-5259) for scheduling and further information.
Unity Church is participating in a local inter-faith program for sheltering and training homeless families. We are partnered to with Christ the King Lutheran Church to help prepare and serve meals for a week five times in the next year. We will also help children with homework and support the parents during our week. Jim Grossman, our Unity Family Promise Coordinator can be reached by phone at 383-9392 with any questions you might have about the program. MORE IN FORMATION ABOUT THE TRAINING SESSIONS: Completing the Family Promise training session is a must for anyone wanting to volunteer their time to get directly involved with the guest families. It's necessary for anyone wanting to cook, mentor, stay overnight, visit or participate in any related activities with the families. The first training session , held March 21 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, was a huge success with more than 50 people attending. Please take a moment to note the schedule of upcoming sessions to the left of this article. If you’re interested it is not necessary to make a reservation. Simply show up, complete the four hours of training, let your Unity Family Promise coordinator or church office know you’ve completed the training and then get plugged into the volunteer schedule the next time Unity co-hosts a family. Please call the church hosting the training for session times. Important note: Completing the Family Promise training program is mandatory for all volunteers. |

Homelessness can seem like an overwhelming problem. Many people wonder how
one person or congregation can truly make a difference. The answer is by
participating in the Interfaith Hospitality Network’s Family Promise
program. |
Through this program, we can help meet a homeless family’s important,
basic needs. Usually, more than half the guests in the network are
children. Most of these children are under the age of six. |
