Silent Mist

pastel on paper

22" x 30"

1982

private collection

This painting was one of many I made in the Allegheny Mountains. Several times each year, my family and I travelled through the Shenandoah Valley and into West Virginia to visit our family. I wanted to stop at the top of every mountain. No matter how often I painted the same view, it was new to me. One day the mist blanketed the hills, another there was snow, and another the setting sun filled the air with a warm glow. I never tired of any of it. It was my view from the top of the world!
