During the later of my twenty-year conversation with Bob Mayo about
painting, he had begun to prod me with questions concerning internal sources
of imagery . . . as opposed to the external ones (landscapes) to
which I was accustomed. As I began to allow images which I could NOT see
come from inside me and appear on the canvas, I was continually startled
to see these figures appear.
I have come to understand them as energy (or light) beings .
. . souls.This one, I feel, is a self-portrait. . . my own essence.
