It might sound weird coming from a guy, but I have always been
something of a collector. I remember having quite a few shoe
boxes filled with odds and ends when I was a kid. I remember
never throwing anything away in case I would want it later. I
went through the stage where I saved all of my toys and all of
my tiny army soldiers. I remember my mom telling me that one
day I would regret saving everything I had ever owned and that
I couldn't be a collector forever or I'd never find a house
big
enough for all my stuff. She might have been even more upset
had
she known that I would start to collect cookie jars as an
adult.
I have no real idea when or why exactly I began to collect
cookie jars. All I remember is that one day I became extremely
intrigued by them and that I started purchasing them whenever
I
could.
Being a collector at heart, many of my Saturdays were and
still
are spent garage saleing. I love going from house to house and
collecting treasures that other people considered trash. Once
I
realized how much I loved cookie jars I began to see that they
were at many of the garage sales I visited. I would begin a
day
of garage sales telling myself that I could only purchase one
cookie jar that day, but I would finish the day with three or
five or sometimes ten cookie jars in my backseat.
When I tell people about my growing collection of cookie jars,
the obvious question they ask me is what I do with them. They
wonder if I eat enough cookies to keep the jars filled, and if
I do, why am I not overweight. People wonder if I love to bake
cookies and then fill my cookie jars with them to give as
gifts
(I wish I were that altruistic). Most people do not know how
to
react when I say that I simply love cookie jars because I like
how they look and that they are displayed on shelves in a room
of my house.
My collection of cookie jars has steadily been increasing for
the past fifteen years. I guess I shouldn't have ever started
because now I definitely cannot stop. People in my life know
to
get me unique cookie jars for gifts, and you would be amazed
by
how unique and creative some of my jars are from the years. I
truly love cookie jars. Call me crazy, but I do. Now if I
could
just develop a love of baking then I could actually put the
cookie jars to real use.
