The Practice of the Presence of God
Our theme for November and December is taken from the book by Brother Lawrence, a classic among New Thoughters for many years. The conversation and letters of this laybrother show us how, at any moment, and in any circumstance, the soul that seeks the companionship of God may find it. Brother Lawrence was able to turn even the most commonplace and menial task into a living hymn to the glory of God. The Practice of the Presence of God strongly supports service and humility as desired virtues as expressed by some of the greatest individuals in history, including Jesus, the Christ. Interestingly enough, many such great individuals never sought greatness. They only sought to know, express, and behold spiritual values. Brother Lawrence offers some magnificent observations for consciously experiencing the Presence and Spirit of God in everyday living, wherever your are, whatever you are doing.
