Trouble Shooting Eufrates
Here are some common problems and solutions for Eufrates.
-
I changed the item, but the web page didn't change. Did you remember to press 'Update Web Page Item' after making the item change? You must then press the 'Generate' button to actually generate the page. Make sure you hit the 'reload' or 'refresh' button on your browser if you are checking the actual page.
-
All my text runs together in one big glob. Try changing the itemtype for your items to 'Paragraph'. If you have multiple paragraphs in one text or paragraph item, separate the paragraphs with the <p> tag.
-
My text describing the link is not underlined - there is nothing to click on. Be sure that the text that you want the reader to click on is entered in the 'Description of Link' box. An extended description can be in the 'Text' box.
-
I click on the link, and the broswer gives me an error. Local links (to your other pages) should be just the name of the file, like 'index' for your home page. Links to other peoples pages must be the complete format, like
'http://www2.websyte.com/index.htm' . Notice that there are
two slashes between http: and the start of the address. Try copying the URL to your browser's 'Location:' line and accessing the web page directly to check your link.
-
The generated web page changes when I press the 'Generate' button, but when I click on the actual web page it has not changed. Your browser caches pages (keeps them in memory tp speed up access) and it doesn't realize the web page has changed. Press your browser's 'reload' or 'refresh' button.
-
I can't pronounce 'Eufrates'. Even my friends ask me 'what is this u-fraits thing, anyways?' Well it is supposed to be pronounced like the river, You-Frayd-ees. But you can call it whatever you like.
-
Why do you include the 'this page updated line' with the URL of the same page you are on? More and more people are using automatic updating services to find changed pages, and some people email pages to their friends or save them on disk. This clickable line means that they can get back to your page in an instant. You might try placing a ruler line as the last item on your page to separate this area off.
-
After pressing the 'Update' button, I get a message like
'Invalid POST data'. This is a bug in your browser. After Eufrates updates its database, it send a redirection message to your browser to tell it to go to the next page. Unfortunately, at least one browser (Mosaic from Compuserve) tries to POST to the new page. The simple answer is to press the 'Reload' button.
